Play and Key Persons

At Kids 4 Us Nursery and After School Kids Club we believe that well-planned experiences based on children’s spontaneous play, both indoors and outdoors, are an important way in which kids 4 Us staff support young children to learn with enjoyment and challenge.

At Kids 4 Us we ensure that children’s learning and development occur as an outcome of their individual interests and abilities and that planning for learning and development takes account of these.

Kids 4 Us Nursery and After School Kids club feel that children’s experience of the outdoors offers both physical and mental challenges. We are able to offer children and babies opportunities for outside learning and development as we have a large secure outside play area. This consists of a garden where children are able to experience all aspects of growing and maintaining vegetables and flowers, a large multi use area where children are able to access gross motor equipment and an enclosed shaded area where children are able to use equipment such as climbing frames, slides, balancing equipment and role play area.

The outdoor play area is made available to all children throughout the year.  This offers children and staff opportunities to talk about and explore seasons, changing weather conditions, people who help us and lots of other exciting experiences.

Key Person
All children up to the age of 5 years have a key person. A key person has a special responsibility for working with a small number of children, this is the person who:

  • Is your main point of contact within the setting
  • Helps your child to become settled, happy and safe
  • Is responsible for your child’s care, development and learning
  • Takes a careful note of your child’s progress, sharing this with you and giving you ideas as to how to help your child at home
  • Building relationships with their parents.

Kids 4 Us Nursery and After School Kids Club aim to provide the children in our care with as many varied opportunities as possible.  This includes going on walks and outings in the local community, trips to the library and visitors.
